Job Descriptions

The last job I took, which I still have, is at Knottworks Construction. When I took the property manager position the job description focused on overseeing daily operations at a multi-family complex, coordinating maintenance, handling tenant issues, and making sure the property stayed in good condition. That all sounded straightforward and honestly it was one of the main reasons I applied, it felt like something I could handle and grow in. Once I started though I realized the job was more personal than I expected because I was dealing with tenants in person. It wasn’t just about schedules and maintenance logs, it was about building trust with tenants learning how to handle stressful situations calmly and being someone people felt comfortable coming to with problems. I’ve had days where I’m handling back to back calls about a plumbing issue and others where I’m walking a new family through their lease and making sure they feel at home. Those moments weren’t exactly spelled out in the job post but they’ve become my favorite part of the job. The role has been a really good fit for me. I’ve learned how to manage a lot at once, communicate better, and stay organized even when things get busy. It’s helped me feel more confident about working in real estate long term. The job description gave me a general idea of what I was stepping into but the experience itself has been way more rewarding than I expected. I’m glad I took the leap.
