I think one of the biggest challenges that are faced when trying to maintain job descriptions is the ever changing job world. With how quickly we are evolving in the technology field, it changes what job duties are and changes what the description of the role is. A great example of this is with the use of AI in almost every facet of the employment world. AI has changed almost every role, for the good, or for the bad. If you look at a job like data entry, the use of AI has taken data entry jobs from being copy and paste to being ‘hit enter’. Now I understand that this is a very broad job example but I do think it shows how quickly a job can change.
Another example that is forever changing in a job description is the salary and pay. While I do appreciate more transparency that has come from salary in the description, I don’t enjoy seeing a job description with a $80,000 range in pay. Going back to AI, most companies are now utilizing AI for their job descriptions which leads to less ‘customization’ when it comes to a job posting. Companies are now just posting the same job across the entire country and not trying to make it fit for a specific area.
While job descriptions in theory are relatively easy to maintain, when looking at how quickly jobs change from year to year or even month to month, I think this becomes moving mountains to maintain.
