If I were to move to a different country and began furthering my career outside of the United States, I have a strong intrest in going to Norway or one of the other Nordic Countries. I have some fily who lives over there and have always heard nothing but great things. One of the biggest reasons would be the cultural differences about peoples perspective when looking at how to spend their work time. They tend to live a much more balanced lifestyle apart from the 9-5 working schedule that the majority of Americans follow. Many companies have 30min to an hour of excercise time durng the work day, and whether it is a walk outside or a quick workout, taking breaks and balancing your life can have many positive physical and mental health benefits. Their power distance level is also quite similiar to the U.S. which would make it somewhat easy to transfer into, compared to an eastern asian culture where questioning your boss can be viewed as extremely disrespectful and cost you your career in seconds. Reseraching and understanding the culture you are moving into is vital to your comprehension of the cultural norms and behaviors that everyone will have around you so that you may fit in with their way of life.
Another factor I would consider as I make my move over to Norway or another one of those countries would be their ideas on how business should be run with others. While there are only so many things you can learn about office behaviors, I would want to make sure I feel okay with what their business practices are when making deals with others. My father used to work in Bejing and said that it was a custom to go out drinking while making a business deal with someone. He would feel guilty because sometimes him and his coworkers would get people so drunk that they made bad decisions in signing a deal due to them beeing severly intoxicated. I would rather not suffer the same guilt and instead engage in honest and fair business practices. This is a big reason why the Nordic Countries have always interested me, and if I get the opportunity I would definitely love to move there and continue my career.
