Going Internationally?

Overall, working internationally has been something I have really thought about in these recent months because I am graduating this year but I have never really thought about the many pros and cons that come with it. The place I have been considering the most has been Switzerland due to many reasons. The main reason would be because it is one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen and nearly 45 percent or more speak English. Another thing is that I will be in the construction industry after graduating and Switzerland’s construction workers are in high demand. Switzerland’s economy is booming and the amount of construction projects that are taking place there is unlimited.

When we see the comparison between the U.S and Switzerland, in terms of Hofstede’s cultural dimensions, we can see that they share almost everything the same in these dimensions. Switzerland and the United States rate as a individualist country meaning we focus on the rights and concerns of each person. The United States scores a low 40 while Switzerland scores a low 34 in power distance which is very close to each other. The power distance that they score is no surprise because the U.S preaches freedom, liberty, and justice for all.

Having that Switzerland and the United States are very similar with these important cultural dimensions, I am truly convinced I would want to work there permanently. Something that differs from each of the countries is that Switzerland is a democracy and while often the U.S is categorized as a democracy, it is more accurately defined as constitutional federal republic. I believe that this difference doesn’t effect me personally between living in these places but I think this is good difference. Overall, I am considering in living here for these reasons and I personally believe this one of the best places to live after being born and raised in America.
