Facilities:  Currently has a 60’ Manlift on site, appropriate maintenance tasks. Full gutter inspections should be done now, prior to the rainy season, while manlift is on site. New hire joined the Facilities crew recently.

NOAA:  All fire extinguishers have been checked out and retagged.

EPA:  Power issues have been resolved.

ODFW:  Roof reconstruction has been completed.

Guin Library:  Facilities staff are to ensure that all doors (including back door) are firmly closed following early-morning rounds, to prevent unauthorized entries.

Lab Safety:  Lab Safety Assessments will be done in the October-December period. PIs are expected to attend their lab assessments.  Lab safety assessment form can be found at http://ehs.oregonstate.edu/laboratory-research-safety   Additional Lab Safety Quick Reference Guides (updated version) will be provided, per requests.

Fire Alarms, Testing vs. Real-Time:  When the fire alarm goes off, whether the system is being worked on or not, evacuate.

Tsunami Drill and Evacuation Issues:

  • Safe Haven Hill drill is scheduled for Tuesday, October 17th, the day of the Great Shake Out.
  • Work is continuing on building the cache at Safe Haven Hill. Once completed, the work group will focus on supplying the cache at OCCC.
  • Discussion centered on the number of dogs that will be with us in an unscheduled event. Topics included food, water, safety, muzzles.  Could we get a pet food supplier to provide a stash, which could be rotated out to a shelter and replenished after a certain period of time?  Could this be a fund-raiser aimed toward dog owners, who would contribute to this?  A rep will take this topic to the next cache meeting.
  • On a recent night drill, the group found issues with lighting which was not switched on, and solar lighting that was not effective, likely because it was in a heavily treed area. Concern was expressed about not knowing the route in the dark, and the need for flashlights.

Attending:  Catherine Hawes, Mitch Vance, David Applegate, Dave Jacobson, Mary Markland, Carol C ole, Sandra Bohn, Patty George, Itchung Cheung, Matt Hawkyard
