We will NOT hold an HMSC Safety Awareness Forum on Thursday, May 11th. Instead, we encourage you to join the evacuation event to Safe Haven Hill – for three reasons.
1) This will be your chance to see how long it really takes YOU to get to the top of the hill – no guessing, no relying on your fastest imagined time. Real-time: your time, average pace, and the distance travelled your chosen route. (Check out Strava and learn how long it takes to pull your backpack from your car.)
2) You’ll help improve tsunami evacuation models (See Cinamon’s “Your help…”, below) by using the Strava app and downloading your results to the database. If interested in using this cellphone app, please check it out – install it and familiarize yourself with it – beforehand. You’ll find additional information on the Drill Registration Form:
http://oregonstate.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_4Z8nTfMyCyeeYVn
3) You’ll have an opportunity to check out the disaster cache, as well as donate soft goods, such as socks, gloves, hats. (See Cinamon’s “Bonus” note, below.)
Additional details will be posted in the next day or so.
From Cinamon:
“Your help is needed to improve tsunami evacuation models. The evacuation event to Safe Haven Hill will take place the morning of May 11. All abilities welcome. Organizers need more folks leaving from different places to ground truth these models. Your participation is a great chance to help improve the science and practice evacuating to Safe Haven Hill.
Please see below for more information.
Bonus: Check out changes to the disaster cache – it will be open for viewing. Bring an extra new or used but clean hat, gloves, or socks in your to-go-bag for the cache! Let us know if you have other supplies to donate.”
