December 14, 2017, HMSC Safety Awareness Forum Notes

Topics discussed included:

Lab Coats:  EH&S is scheduled to drop off lab coats this week, to be used for sizing, for lab personnel.

EH&S Staffing Update:  Personnel changes.

Volunteers, liability, and Workers Comp:  If planning to bring a volunteer aboard, check out the Risk Management website for compliance requirements and information.

On-the-job Injuries and Tetanus Shots:  Information/update provided from CAS SAC meeting, based on the College’s experience.  In the future, CAS may initiate a unit requirement for such vaccinations.

International Travel, Registration, Insurance, and Risk Management:  All personnel travelling on OSU-sponsored matters are required to register.  The policy covers evacuation (medical, security, natural disaster – with some exclusions) as well as medical and other issues.  Travelers can also extend that coverage for personal time off before or after their OSU-related travels at an additional fee.  In emergencies, travelers at risk are asked to call campus police (24/7) – the dedicated point of contact – who will immediately contact international travel personnel.

Flares on the Beach:  Observe training has been scheduled during the next few months: raining will include the use of flares on the beach.

Small Boat Safety Group:  This recently formed multi-agency group will work together, and will look for common training opportunities, including trailering.

Boatyard Restructure:   The boatyard area will be resurfaced and upgraded, with assigned stalls for trailers and boats.   (possibly February).

Attending:  Jami Ivory, Rick Brown, David Applegate, Debbie Dietrich-Steel, Dave Jacobson, Carol Cole, Mary Markland, Craig Hayslip, Jody Stecher, Cinamon Moffet, Sandra Bohn
