The Media Settings relate to image size settings and contain the following items:

  • Image Sizes:
    • Thumbnail size: Allows you to define thumbnail size and cropping requirements.
    • Medium size: Allows you to define the medium image size.
    • Large size: Allows you to define the large image size.

The Discussion Settings group relates to the different ways that comments can be controlled, when notification should occur, and customization levels for comment authors. It contains the following items:

  • Default Article Settings:
    • Attempt to notify any blogs linked to the article (slows down posting) – default enabled
    • Allow link notifications from other blogs (pingbacks and trackbacks) – default enabled
    • Allow people to post comments on the article – default enabled
  • E-mail Me Whenever:
    • Anyone posts a comment – default enabled
    • A comment is held for moderation (should be reviewed prior to publishing) – default enabled
  • Before a Comment Appears:
    • An administrator must always approve the comment – default disabled
    • Comment author must fill out name and e-mail – default enabled
    • Comment author must have a previously approved comment – default enabled
  • Comment Moderation: Triggers for possible spam or inappropriate content alerts – requires administrator to review comment prior to publication
  • Comment Blacklist: Trigger for automatic spam or inappropriate content

Avatars – An image that follows a user from blog to blog and appears beside the username when a comment is made on an avatar enabled site

  • Avatar Display: Whether or not to show avatars on your site
  • Maximum Rating: The self-imposed site rating – uses movie ratings as a rating standard
  • Default Avatar: A default avatar to use if users don’t’ have their own

The Reading Settings group relates to front page displays and feed output options. It contains the following items:

  • Blog Pages Show at Most: How many blog pages you want to show, at most.
  • Syndication Feeds Show the Most Recent: Determine the number of recent syndication feeds to show.
  • For Each Article in a Feed, Show: Determines whether to show full or summary text in a feed.
  • Encoding for Pages and Feeds: The character encoding you write your blog in – UTF-8 is default and recommended.
