Cher Wang has clearly had a vision for technology and improving people’s lives long before she founded her first company. If you ask her I would assume that her love of technology came from her father. Cher’s father was a key player in the Taiwan business industry and it appears that his children all followed in his footsteps.
Cher ventured into an industry that to this day is still dominated primarily by men. Early in Cher’s career she worked as a general manager for First International Computer Inc. (FIC). Cher was partially responsible for FIC’s entering the motherboard business. During the 1980’s when Cher was working at FIC, technology was evolving and Cher seemed to be at the forefront of this evolution.
I believe that many Taiwan residents did not have access to high education due to finances and therefore they lacked the education and connections needed to enter the technology field. Cher was fortunate enough to have come from a wealthy family which allowed her to pursue a higher education, her father and siblings also had multiple connections throughout Taiwan. With the combination of Cher’s education, connections, and raw talent she was able to enter a male dominated field and dominate multiple areas of the industry.
Cher also grew up in a household that had strict rules and was very business oriented. I think that this helped Cher become the person that she is today. It seems as if failure was not an option for her and she had a big reputation to live up to. Cher has seemed to handle the pressure extremely well given the multiple accomplishments she has made throughout her life.
