Some Bugs Allowed: The Capstone Experience

  • Some Bugs Allowed: Good Code = Good Life

Welcome to my blog! My name is Eliot and I am a senior at Oregon State University. Why should you care? Well, I’m excited to announce that this term marks the beginning of my capstone endeavor; a long-term project in which I get to actually put my skills as a computer science student to the test and develop an actual, real-world piece of software. Neat, no? Here I plan to use this blog to reflect on my journey and to share my thoughts and feelings along the way as I apply my skills and begin my transition into the professional sphere and I hope you’ll join me along the way!

I am incredibly excited by the opportunity presented to me with this capstone experience. Though I’m leaving my career path somewhat open-ended for the time being, I have acquired a keen interest in AI, machine learning, and neural networks. This opportunity may likely be the first time I’ve been able to experience some of these technologies first-hand and I am immeasurably excited by the thought. Even if this isn’t the path I end up following for my project, It’s certainly a field I would love to explore more in depth at a later date. I’m sure that no matter which direction my capstone takes me, I will manage to gain some invaluable experience working in a team, learning new technologies, and designing a full project from the ground up for the very first time. I really look forward to sharing these insights as I investigate new concepts and expand my own understanding of this field that seemingly offers infinite opportunities.

“Why are some bugs allowed?” you might ask. To answer, I’ll direct you towards the adorable orange cat above. When I adopted her, I thought it apt to name her something related to my career path and while CS has provided me with many terms that might be appropriate, there was something about the simplicity of “Bug” that seemed to fit. So ultimately, this whole page is just one big pun that gives me an excuse to talk about my cat.

Thank you so much for reading! This initial post might not be the most interesting thing you’ll read today, but I hope to provide some genuine insight and worthwhile content on my journey in the coming weeks, so I hope you stick around!
