Are Bloggers Journalists?
May 1st, 2012The Merriam-Webster definition of a Journalist is “a person engaged in journalism; especially : a writer or editor for a news medium b : a writer who aims at a mass audience”. I believe that by this definition Bloggers are definitely journalists. The reason that I think this is true is because any website can act as a news medium, and it is being able to be seen by a large audience. Although bloggers are often speaking about their opinions and their own views, they are still in a way writing for their own journal. Most people would just consider people who write for news, or magazines etc. to be journalists because of the way that they define a news medium. But I personally think that those people who do that should just be considered professional journalists. While bloggers like myself and classmates should be considered amateur journalists. I think that the major difference is that people like me are not getting paid. It’s a difference of being amateur and professional.
