Awesome. I justo googled "nuance worst customer response" and i found your post.

It's awesome, i'm CTO of a small company, we got a SaaS product which uses TTS and ASR from Nuance in the backend,

We have bought so far over 20 licenses from nuance in a small period of time.

Well, all i need is to add support for some extra languages.

Two months later, after talking to several people located in Spain, Canada ad Argentina...i just CANT buy this feature.

The company sells it, but i can't find anyone in nuance who can sell it...wondering what makes my money bad money...

Thanks for the fact sheet! I had better clear this up for myself before my defense, but I'm pretty sure I'm (mostly) interpretivist and mixed quantitative/qualitative.

I think the reason we still have the "frowners" is the lack of ability to see the value in both sides. It's similar, at least, to the evolution debate in which you're pitting two belief systems (science and religion) against one another rather than trying to understand what questions one can answer and how, and in turn, what the limitations of each are.

At least, that's how I see it!

That's a good question Katie. The context for this project is Ocean Literacy (all of the books are ocean related and we expect teachers to do problem- and place-based learning activities are ocean sciences); however, I would say broadly this project defines literacy as reading and writing.

Here's a blurb from the narrative of the grant:

"By the end of the project, all Media Specialists, assistants and teachers will be trained in the Model Classroom 21st Century PBL (www.modelclassroom.org), which incorporates project or challenged based learning and technology to improve students’ traditional literacy skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening) and 21st Century Literacy Skills (collaborate, communicate, connect, create)."

"Since reading proficiency is a predictor of achievement in all academic areas, our school libraries need current resources to support these efforts and ensure Ocean literacy is embedded in all content areas."

I hope that answers your question.

Thanks, Jennifer! I'm not sure of the absolute best way to capture these interactions, but I think our cameras would be well-suited to the task. I'd really like to see how this plays out in other venues, as well.

Excellent point - I certainly could have been projecting confidence or not on these various days, and I could see how that might transfer to potential subjects. I like your point about videotaping, too, as a means to divorce yourself from your immediate mood. The only time I can see that would be a problem is with some stimulated recall research I was doing, where I taped visitors using an exhibit, then played the video back to them immediately while interviewing them. However, I wonder if you do lose a little focus of attention and the camera lens literally blinds you to some of the other stuff going on more broadly if you try to remove yourself from the moment too much.
(and thanks for the dissertation wishes as well).
