Hello, you’ve found the website for the Fish Behaviorscapes Lab at Oregon State University!
Our lab’s work is rooted in combining landscape, fish, and behavioral ecology to provide the holistic knowledge basis for conservation decision-making in the face of a changing climate. The ‘behaviorscapes’ perspective provides four guiding principles for our research:
(1) study organisms either in their natural environment or in context of natural conditions when conducting lab studies,
(2) account for the natural and cultural landscape and riverscape conditions in field studies,
(3) incorporate a refined understanding of fish behavior, and
(4) forge linkages between organisms’ behavior and population or community demographics.
We also have a focus on understanding the differences between hatchery and wild salmonids and investigating the risks and benefits of hatcheries in concert with the mission of the Oregon Hatchery Research Center.
