I have interviewed in a variety of fields from being a barista to a express technician at the well establish Toyota. Each of these interviews were different based on the field I was trying to get into. When I applied to be a Barista at Starbucks the interview was quite simple. They asked me about my personality and how well I could manage different tasks. It made sense to me because Starbucks relies on customer interactions to create a brand. Your hiring interview is going to be heavily focused on personality questions, and interactions that should how you would interact with customers. Anyways I nailed that interview cause I am a happy go lucky person.
Taking a look at at when I applied for a technician position, it was quite different. They obviously cared about my experience because it was a skill based position, I needed a little background. For some context I am a female technican and being in a male dominant industry, there can be some struggles. They asked me wether or not I like the shop enviroment, and yes this means shop talk. I told them that I enjoyed it, which is true. I love “teasing” my cowoekers and I think there are lots of other benefits that came with it, but thats not the focus.
If I could go back I don’t think I would have changed anything in this interviews. They were exactly what I needed in the moment, and helped me understand what I was signing up for.
