 ECTU has Moved

From ECTU:

The Extension Computing Technology Unit (ECTU – Lisa Gillis, Wayne Jardine and Victor Villegas) has moved from Ballard Hall to room #120 in the basement of the Milne Computing Center.

The reason for this move is to help improve our service to customers. With our reduced crew, it has been a challenge to maintain an adequate level of service, especially for our walk-in clients. Starting December 15, you will be able to drop-off/pick-up your computer equipment at the IS Service Desk in Milne. This will help insure there will be someone to assist you with your drop-off/pick-up needs. The Service Desk’s expanded hours (including weekends) increases the hours of availability and should make it easier to accommodate your schedule.

The IS Service Desk hours are:
Mon.-Fri.: 8am – 7pm
Sat.-Sun.: 3pm-7pm

The Service Desk is located at Milne Computing Center #201.

Information Services has two permit parking spots on the east side of Milne, between Milne and Benton Hall (the music building) that can be used for quick drop-off and pick-ups. There are also meter spots nearby. Please park and run in to borrow the hang tag. You can find current parking map here:

Rest assured you will still have access to ECTU and we encourage you to drop by and visit us in our new location anytime.

Digital Measures Update

THANKS to all of you who have begun to work on your year-end reporting. It reduces the rush across my inbox.  Two items:

  1. I notice that as of today we have a new face on the login – and not just for DM. A welcome reminder of warmer times . . .
  2. So that the P&T CV report will ultimately work well for you:

a. Find the “Permanent Data” in the “General Information” section in DM
b. Update your record to indicate your hiring date (year alone is sufficient for this purpose) and Starting Rank
c. Update your advancements through the ranks as appropriate.

P&T report not yet perfectly perfect, but improving.

County Leader Task Force Submits Report

As OSU Extension transitioned into the Regional Administration Model the County Leader role was shaped by the unique situation and needs of each county. The recent evaluation of the Regional Model indicated that this organic approach caused confusion and concern among internal and external stakeholders. In response, a task force was appointed to more clearly define and standardize the CL role and make recommendations for improving the CL assignment. Sincere thanks to Pamela Rose, Program Leader and former County Leader for Marion and Polk counties; Derek Godwin, West Central Regional Administrator; Bob Parker, County Leader for Baker County; Pat Corcoran, County Leader for Clatsop County; Tracy Brunner, County Leader for Klamath County; Rebecca Badger, Ecampus Marketing Project Manager; Alfonso Bradoch, DLS Director, and task force chair Eric Dunker, Coastal Oregon Regional Administrator, for their time, energy and thorough work. Please read the report before Extension Annual Conference. Time will be dedicated on Tuesday morning of the Extension Annual Conference to hearing your reactions to and comments about the recommendations.

A question was asked during the webinar about the deadline for entering 2015 data. January 10, 2016, is the deadline for all Extension faculty to enter 2015 accomplishments and impact statements in Digital Measures, including on-going data (number of contacts, number of volunteers, external funding, scholarly publications/presentations, and awards).

2015 OSU Extension Annual Conference

As a reminder the 2015 OSU Extension Annual Conference begins on Monday, December 7th on the Corvallis campus. Conference organizers would like to inform you that no name badges will be provided at the event, so please remember to bring your Orange OSU Extension name badge.  However, if you have misplaced your badge, the last order has already been submitted and you will not be able to get a new one in time.

The organizers are busy with final details, but if you do have any questions you can call the main Extension Administration phone line at 541-737-2713.


“Life” Campaign Sunsets

The “Life. Get Good at It.” Campaign was introduced several years ago to raise awareness about Extension with the general public.

Since 2012, no additional investment has been made in the campaign. With efforts underway to update Division and Extension websites, the time is right to remove references to the old campaign.

Effective December 31, 2015, “Life” materials and the page itself will be removed from the Extension website.

Discussions about how to position and increase awareness of Extension will continue to take place in the coming months, starting with a conversation with Regional Administrators about marketing on Dec.1.

OSU has established a partnership with the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry for them to offer the OMSI Science Communication Fellows Workshop on campus from Jan to Mar 2016. This program prepares selected faculty and students to increase their effectiveness in science communication and  outreach events.  Participants in the program also become eligible to participate in “Meet-a-Scientist” nights at OMSI.

The cost of the program is $2500 per participant, and the Division of University Outreach and Engagement will support up to three Division faculty/staff with a 50% scholarship. Details about the program and application procedures are at:
