Sesha Atkuru Experiences with Discrimination
Google is ranked as number 2 in “The world most valuable brands” Forbes list. Google has a statement on its website that Google provides equal opportunity at workplace.
When I saw a news article about a class action law suit against Google about gender discrimination by three women employees, my initial thought was that it must be a fake news. News article stated that “Google has discriminated and continues to discriminate against its female employees by systematically paying them lower compensation than Google pays to male employees performing substantially similar work under similar working conditions,”. They assert that Google’s actions violate California law, including the California Equal Pay Act.
The plaintiffs won class-action lawsuit that covers approximately 15,500 female employees in 236 job titles last year. Google agree to $118 Million Settlement. Even if one single person was discriminated then everyone in their right mind should oppose it and stand by that person.
This incident changed my view about Google work place. I feel sad for women employees who suffered this discrimination. I also feel very proud of those three women employees who stood up against the big corporation for 15,500 other women employees and were successful in their lawsuit. I feel that as a global corporation Google failed to implement the values it claims. I support Google, because I believe in correcting the system than destroying. The success of the lawsuit by these brave women employees should have given more courage to other work force irrespective of gender or race or ethnicity to defeat a global giant corporation if any mistake is committed by that corporation. With that same courage, I will also apply for a job in future if opportunity arises. I will stand by anyone discriminated.
