Student Award Nominations
The Office of Undergraduate Research seeks to recognize students and their faculty mentors for significant contributions to undergraduate research with two awards – Undergraduate Research Faculty Mentor of the Year and Undergraduate Researcher of the Year. Graduate, Postdoctoral and Senior Research Awards
The National Research Council of the National Academies sponsors a number of awards for graduate, postdoctoral and senior researchers at participating federal laboratories and affiliated institutions. These awards include generous stipends ranging from $45,000 – $80,000 per year for recent Ph.D. recipients, and higher for additional experience. Graduate entry level stipends begin at $30,000. These awards provide the opportunity for recipients to do independent research in some of the best-equipped and staffed laboratories in the U.S. Research opportunities are open to U.S. citizens, permanent residents, and for some of the laboratories, foreign nationals.

Phi Kappa Phi Emerging Scholar Award Nominations
The OSU chapter of Phi Kappa Phi is now accepting nominations for the Emerging Scholar Award. The award honors tenure-track faculty members in any academic unit who are in the early stages of their professional careers in recognition of outstanding research or creative activity in their field of study. Undergraduate Organic Award

The American Chemical Society’s Division of Organic Chemistry is pleased to sponsor a new award program called the Undergraduate Award in Organic Chemistry, that is intended to recognize senior students who display a significant aptitude for organic chemistry and to encourage further interest in the field.
The award: Consists of a letter of recognition from the ACS Division of Organic Chemistry and an award certificate signed by the division chair. Awardees who are members of the American Chemical Society will also receive membership to the Division of Organic Chemistry; those who are not will receive Affiliate status. Division Affiliates have all of the benefits of membership in the division with the exception of voting and serving on committees. Nominations: Chemistry departments are invited to select a top graduating senior student majoring in either chemistry or biochemistry who has demonstrated excellence in organic chemistry based on a combination of research experience, coursework and a desire to pursue a career in chemistry. The student should also be enrolled at your institution for the 2013-2014 academic year. To nominate a student, the Department Chair or the Chair of the Department Awards Committee (or similar), should complete the online form available at: http://organicdivision.org/uga by March 15th.* Please note that only one student per U.S. institution can be nominated per academic year. While we plan to send you the official award items by April 30th, once the form is submitted, you are welcome to immediately recognize the student as you deem appropriate.
*The deadline was purposely chosen to be prior to graduation so that information could be sent to the department before the student recipients had left campus.
South Carolina Universities Research and Education Foundation (SCUREF)
The South Carolina Universities Research and Education Foundation (SCUREF) is now accepting applications for the Nuclear Forensics Undergraduate Scholarship Program (NFUSP) 2014-2015 Award Cycle. Attached you will find a booklet with a description of the program and application criteria, as well as an application and instructions for completion. Potential scholars are encouraged to complete the electronic application and associated forms on the SCUREF website at www.scuref.org under the NFUSP tab.
Also attached is a poster announcing the NFUSP Award Cycle, which we hope you will print and prominently display.
Sponsored by the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Domestic Nuclear Detection Office, the NFUSP provides scholarships to qualified undergraduate students pursuing degrees in disciplines relevant to technical nuclear forensics including physics, chemistry, nuclear engineering, and material science. Scholars gain hands-on experience through summer research opportunities at the Department of Energy national laboratories, including close interaction with technical experts throughout the national nuclear forensics community. The NFUSP aims to build a viable student career path in nuclear forensics in order to cultivate the next generation of highly qualified scientists in this critically important field.

Fullbright Flex Awards
NEW! Introducing Fulbright Flex Awards: The Fulbright Scholar Program welcomes applications from faculty and researchers who propose multiple, short-term stays in the host country over a period of two to three years. Flex Awards are also designed for scholars who require multiple visits abroad to accomplish their research objectives. In addition to their research activities, Flex award scholars will be required to give public talks, participate in seminars, mentor students, and otherwise engage with the host country academic community.For more information about this new program model, visit our website or the Fulbright Scholar Blog. WAGS/UMI Innovation in Technology Award
The Graduate School invites your program’s participation in a campus-based competition for selection of OSU’s nominee for the 2013-14 WAGS/UMI Innovation in Technology Award.
This award recognizes distinguished scholarly achievement at the master’s thesis or doctoral dissertation level for the development of an innovative technology and its utilization for the creative solution of a major problem. A nominee must have earned the master’s or doctoral degree within the period of July 1, 2012 through June 30, 2013.
This prestigious regional competition is an important opportunity for OSU to showcase technological innovation and creativity by our graduate students to institutions throughout the western region and to celebrate our success. We encourage you to take the time to prepare a nomination.
OSU AWARDS AND RECOGNITION: The Graduate School will provide a cash award of $500 to the student selected as OSU’s nominee for the Western Association of Graduate Schools/UMI Innovation in Technology Award. In addition, the Graduate School will award $500 to the graduate department/program that submits the thesis selected as OSU’s nominee for the Western Association of Graduate Schools/UMI Innovation in Technology Award.
PROCEDURES: Each graduate program may submit only one nomination for consideration. Graduate programs must provide in one electronic PDF file items b, c and d as reflected in the attached WAGS/UMI guidelines. Please refer to the full announcement for complete details.
