The Safety Manager performs a variety of work duties, some of which includes:  conducts periodic on-site occupational health surveys and inspections of field operations and facilities to ensure applicable health and safety requirements are met and assists on corrective action; assists accident and mishap task teams, fact-finding boards, investigation committees and special working groups to ensure that safety and health considerations are met; provides advice and guidance to District and Supervisor’s Office safety committee members on policy and requirements; advises senior level management officials within the assigned area on the status of the safety and occupational health programs; provides advice and guidance on OSHA Regulations and the Forest Service Safety Handbook; develops reports and summaries to identify accident trends and conducts follow-up analysis to determine the effectiveness of safety recommendations; develops and maintains Forest Safety Plans; serves as the point of contact for Accident Investigations, coordinates safety training; and assists employees with the Safety and Health Information Portal System (eSafety database).

24-month Post-Doctoral Scholarship Opportunity Fall 2019 – Fall 2021

The Mary Ann Swetland Center for Environmental Health at Case Western Reserve University, School of Medicine in Cleveland, Ohio is seeking a post-doctoral scholar to contribute to the Center’s vibrant program of research focused on environmental health equity. The mission of the Swetland Center is to study the complex interplay between the environment and health with the goal of translating findings into scalable solutions to redress the environment’s disparate impact on residents in Cleveland and beyond. The strategic vision of the Swetland Center is to innovate and apply community systems science for environmental health equity by (1) advancing translational environmental health research, (2) integrating environmental health and community systems science into medical and graduate education, and (3) engaging the community in environmental health research and action.

The post-doctoral scholar will join a collaborative research team that includes strong community-university partnerships. They will have an opportunity to develop new independent research focused on local environmental health issues related to air quality, lead exposure, and underlying root causes such as poverty and racism to advance environmental health equity through community-engaged team science. They will have an opportunity to contribute to existing research related to the Center’s ongoing initiatives related to food systems and health.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in environmental health, public or population health, or a related field; a strong background in environmental science and environmental justice; skills in mixed methods, implementation science, and community-engaged research; and a record of translating research findings into publications.
