The Department of Environmental Health Sciences of Columbia University’s Mailman School of Public Health seeks applicants for a cluster hire of 4-5 tenure track faculty positions at the level of Assistant and Associate Professor or higher. The successful candidate(s) will develop an independent research program within the Department of Environmental Health Sciences. Among other opportunities for collaboration, the Department is home to the Columbia Center for Children’s Environmental Health. The Center offers unique opportunities through existing longitudinal cohorts of children and their mothers and capacity for new recruitment. The Department also houses the NIEHS-Columbia P30 Center for Environmental Health in Northern Manhattan that supports an active community engagement program in Northern Manhattan (Harlem, Washington Heights, and Inwood) and the South Bronx. These Centers offer opportunities for community-based participatory research in marginalized communities that are disproportionally affected by adverse environmental exposures. The incumbent will work and collaborate with investigators across Columbia University to develop a comprehensive research program in the areas referenced above, and they will play a substantial role in our MS, MPH, and PhD educational programs as an instructor and mentor.

As an Environmental Health Specialist, you will advise and educate facilities (shelters, corrections and other settings without regulatory oversight providing infection control or environmental health support), local public health authorities (LPHAs) and CRRU epidemiology staff on environmental interventions to prevent the spread of COVID-19, as well as develop detailed plans for responding to COVID-19 outbreaks. In addition, the individual in the position will develop guidance documents and provide training and technical assistance to facilities on disease mitigation strategies, interpretation of guidelines and explanation of the intent of requirements. Collaborate with CRRU epidemiologists and Oregon’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) to ensure consistency in guidance and response.
The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the interdisciplinary Department of Public Health. We seek an active and engaged colleague who has research and teaching strengths in environmental health and justice (interests may include, but are not limited to, built environments, neighborhood effects, climate justice, sustainability, disaster preparedness, etc.). We encourage applications from persons with experience conducting community-based research serving particularly vulnerable, underserved, and urban populations.
Candidates should have substantive scholarly expertise in one or more defined areas and be able to develop collaborative research efforts in the metropolitan Detroit area. We seek a colleague with an active research program, track record of published scholarship, and an ability to draw on this research to inform their teaching and service. Candidates engaged in multidisciplinary research, community-based research collaborations, and environmental justice and advocacy research are encouraged to apply. We also value candidates committed to evidence-based intervention research employing traditional and non-traditional quantitative and qualitative methods (e.g., ethnography, Photovoice, and mixed methods).
Candidates will be expected to teach required courses in the undergraduate public health curriculum. The preferred candidate will have teaching strengths that support courses such as Environmental Health, Methodological Approaches in Public Health, and Social and Behavioral Aspects of Public Health. Candidates will also be encouraged to develop new elective courses that align with their substantive area of expertise within environmental health and justice.
Candidates are also expected to perform meaningful service on department, college, and university committees; participate in departmental activities; serve their profession/discipline and/and community partners (if appropriate); and complete other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
Candidates should possess a Ph.D., DrPH, or equivalent doctoral degree with expertise in environmental health, environmental sciences, environmental justice, or closely related social/behavioral science. Persons who will have their doctoral degree conferred by August 15, 2021 are eligible to apply. Candidates who additionally possess an MPH degree in any public health discipline are highly valued. Responsibilities
As the Division environmental compliance manager, develop, implement, and operate a compliance program that conforms to all federal, state, and agency rules, regulations, laws, and guidelines that are subject to inspection by local, state, federal, and agency officials;
Develop, implement, maintain, and annually update both the division’s Chemical Hygiene Plan and Environmental Management System that also includes radiation safety while adhering to all applicable local, state, federal, and agency rules and regulations;
Develop and implement a laboratory and hazardous waste management program that conforms to all applicable local, state, federal and agency rules and regulations;
Provide expert advice and safety training on industrial hygiene and safety for division employees and other interested parties;
Plan, conduct, and direct special studies concerned with occupational health problems;
25-50% of work time on contracts, grants/cooperative agreements, and/or interagency agreements.
The Safety Specialist is responsible for helping Ward Insurance Agency, Inc. attract, secure, and retain business by providing professional, timely, and knowledgeable human loss prevention and safety services. The role operates as a value-add position to support the Producers’ prospecting and servicing goals.
