The Department of Environmental Health Sciences, School of Public Health at University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) is searching for an outstanding faculty member at the Assistant Professor (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (tenure-track or tenured), with rank and tenure status commensurate with qualifications. A doctoral degree in environmental health sciences, exposure sciences, chemistry, physics, engineering, industrial hygiene or a related discipline is required. Preferred qualifications include a record of peer-reviewed publications and experience teaching graduate level courses in environmental health sciences.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop an extramurally funded research portfolio, teach graduate-level courses, and engage in service to the department and University.
Applicants should have research interests in the broad area of environmental and occupational exposure, such as personal and environmental monitoring; environmental or occupational exposure assessment; environmental chemistry with focus on adverse effects of chemical and physical stressors; air pollution exposure and modeling; exposure to aerosol and manufactured nanoparticles; biosensors; and analysis of the exposome in human populations. Additionally, the successful candidate will be expected to work collaboratively on multidisciplinary research projects and with the Deep South Center at UAB, which is the only NIOSH-funded Education and Research Center in the southeast region.
Applicants will be expected to teach graduate-level courses in their area of expertise. Current teaching opportunities include exposure assessment, risk assessment, environmental chemistry, aerosol technology, and air and water pollution. Advising master’s and doctoral students is also expected. The School of Public Health at UAB is accredited by the Council of Education for Public Health. The Department offers MPH in Environmental and Occupational Health and Industrial Hygiene, MSPH in Environmental Toxicology and Ph.D. in Environmental Health with specialization in various research areas. The Department is actively associated with diverse UAB research centers/programs including the UAB Center for Nanoscale Materials and Biointegration, the Center for Free Radical Biology, the Enabling Technology Laboratory, and the Materials Processing & Applications Development Center as well as involved in collaborations with faculty members in the School of Nursing, School of Engineering, School of Medicine and departments of Biology, Chemistry and Physics in the College of Art and Sciences.
