For this week’s post, we are looking at 3 different companies from Fortune 100 best companies to work for and reflecting on what employees say about what makes the company a great place to work. We are also talking about what type of manager we would like to be and how HR activities will come into play when we are a manager.
The three companies I chose for this week were Workday, Delta Airlines, and Hilton. These are all companies I have some sort of experience with (I have used their services before) so I am interested to see what people are saying about them.
I think the biggest common denominator between these companies was that each one said that they felt as though they were cared for and valued in their job. The employees stated that they felt as though they were making a difference and that they mattered. HR can have a huge impact on this aspect of a company. HR is all about dealing with people, and it reflects a lot on the culture of the company. These companies have developed an HR department that meets the employees needs as well as maintaining a level of organization that satisfies everyone.
If I were a manager, I would treat people the way I want to be treated. I think that a manager isn’t one to boss people around, but instead be a leader and someone that employees look up to. I think it is better to be respected than feared. I think HR would play a big part in this. HR is there to help employees and listen to them. If there is an open line of communication, where everyone treats each other with respect, things will run smoother. I would also like to have check ups with employees and HR personnel to understand what is going well, and what are somethings that need to change. Nothing is ever perfect, and that is when we need everyone to speak up about their needs without fear of repercussions.
