MGMT 453 Blog
My assignment for MGMT 453 is to choose three companies from the list of Fortune 100 Best Companies to Work For 2020 and reflect on how they’re HR departments achieved this listing by managing employees using model practices. Below are the three companies I selected for this assignment.
#5 Workday
The first company I analyzed is Workday, a software for organization management. On the website, there is a quote from an employee that emphasizes the relationships between the management and employees being very transparent and easy to communicate with. This quote highlights how the HR department can keep high levels of employee retention and engagement by managing the way upper management keeps up on engaging with the other employees.
#9 American Express
Next, I analyzed American Express, a credit card company. There is a quote on the website that gives an idea of how the employees view working with this organization. The quote underlines how important it is for the HR department to strive for workers to have a good work-life balance. Employee benefits and health are also very important to keep workers happy and returning to work. The HR department has done a great job understanding what benefits the employees will value, such as leave for both types of parents.
#43 T-Mobile USA
Lastly, I analyzed T-Mobile USA, a nationwide mobile phone company. This company placed number 43 on the list of 100. The information from the website implies several HR practices that have made a difference in how the employees feel about their positions in the company. For instance, the quote mentioned how well they manage diversity when hiring, as well as training and employee development.
Summary
After analyzing the different HR management practices that propel these companies to be on the list of best 100, I have determined that several practices are reflected in employees’ statements about their company. The best practices are work-life balance and employee satisfaction, as well as giving the employees the ability to excel with the proper training and development resources. Therefore, if I were a manager, I would apply the same techniques used in the companies I chose to analyze. The most challenging aspect would be getting the other employees to give honest feedback without feeling intimidated by the authority of upper management.
