Bring those broken or damaged items to the May Repair Fair on Wednesday, May 13 from 5:30 – 7:30 PM. The event will be held at the OSU Recycling Warehouse, aka the OSUsed Store (644 SW 13th Street).

Volunteers will teach you how to fix your broken items; attend demos to learn more skills! See the list below for this month’s skills and demonstrations. The event is free and open to all.

Repair skills offered:

  • Appliances (small items only, please)
  • Clothing
  • Computer diagnostics
  • Electronics (small items only, please)
  • Housewares (furniture, ceramics, lamps, etc.)
  • Woodwind Instruments
  • And more!

Demonstrations:

P1090036 - edit5:45 – 6:15 pm: Get Fired Up: D.I.Y. Lint Fire Starters – Have you ever needed to start a campfire but didn’t have any dry kindling? Come learn how to make your very own portable fire starter out of materials you can find around the house! Put dryer lint, toilet paper rolls and old candle stubs together and you have your very own water resistant fire starter that can burn for up to 20 minutes! (Leader: Cristina Riani, volunteer of the Waste Watchers)

6:15 – 6:45 pm: All Buttoned Up: Reattaching Buttons – Don’t let a broken button bring you down! Learn the steps to reattach it. Attendees are encouraged to bring their own clothes to follow along.  (Leader: Anne Taleff, Linn Benton Master Recyclers)

6:45 – 7:15 pm: Get Pumped: Bike Flat and Chain Repair – Join the Corvallis Bicycle Collective to learn how to learn about two of the most common repair issues. Volunteers will be demonstrating how to remove and patch flats, how to search for chain wear, and maintaining your chain. Attendees are welcome but not required to bring their own bike. (Leader: Volunteers from the Corvallis Bicycle Collective)

Note: We don’t have spare parts, but will do our best to repair what we can and/or refer you to where you could find the parts you need. If you have parts already, we may be able to help you install them.
