2012 Neighborhood Sustainability Steward Training

Would you like to increase your knowledge of energy saving and sustainable living practices at home?  Do you like to meet people, to be part of a team, and to give back to your community?  OSU Extension Service Benton County has a volunteer program for you, the Neighborhood Sustainability Steward Program.

Join our team!  Save money and resources while helping to reduce our community’s carbon footprint.  Help be part of a community solution!  To become a Neighborhood Sustainability Steward volunteer you need to:

  • Attend the eight-week training sessions, topics included:
    • Climate change science
    • Household energy and emission reductions
    • Food systems and choices
    • Sustainable landscapes
    • Water savings and issues
    • Waste reduction and recycling
    • Transportation choices and options
    • The values, ethics, and behavior surrounding lifestyle change
    • Community Volunteer skills
  • Give back to your community by volunteering at least 30 hours of education outreach over the following year.  Share what you learn by volunteering in teams: tabling at events, working with students, speaking to groups, partnering with other sustainable oriented organizations on energy saving projects, writing articles, and the possibilities go on.

Course starts: October 4, 2012 and runs for 8 consecutive Thursdays (break for Thanksgiving), plus 2 Saturday day-time field days scheduled for Oct. 27th & Nov. 10th

Time: 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm

Location: Sunset Meeting Room, Benton County Sunset Building 4077 SW Research Way, Corvallis

Cost: $50.00 covers all your materials, or bring a friend, share materials, and split the costInformation booth at the Farmer's Market
