Would you like to increase your knowledge of energy saving and sustainable living practices at home? Do you like to meet people, to be part of a team, and to give back to your community? OSU Extension Service Benton County has a volunteer program for you, the Neighborhood Sustainability Steward Volunteer Program.

Join our team! To become a Neighborhood Sustainability Steward you need to:
• Attend an eight-week training courseSustainability Stewards at the fair

Course starts: October 18, 2011 and runs for 8 consecutive Tuesdays
(plus, 1 Saturday day-time field day scheduled for October 29th)
Time: 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm
Location: First Presbyterian Church, Dennis Hall
Cost: $50.00 covers all your materials

Household energy and emission reductions
Food systems and choices
Sustainable landscapes
Water savings and issues
Waste reduction
Transportation choices and options
The values, ethics, and behavior surrounding lifestyle change

• Give back to your community by volunteering at least 30 hours of education outreach over the following year. Share what you learn by volunteering in teams: tabling at events, working with students, speaking to groups, partnering with other sustainable oriented organizations on energy saving projects, writing articles, and the possibilities go on.

  1. I’m interested in becoming a neighborhood sustainability steward. I’m willing to take the course but I will not be in town from Oct 24- end of November. Will you be offering another course in January or can I take the course on-line? I feel that I already understand a fair amount about most of these topics.
