The Spring Creek Project and the OSU Student Sustainability Initiative present

OSU’s First Annual Sustainability Writing Contest:

“THE GREAT WORK — Re-imagining Humanity as the Planet Changes”

The Spring Creek Project and the Student Sustainability Initiative are interested in hearing your stories and ideas about ways to move forward with issues of sustainability and conservation in our modern-day society.

Who: All enrolled students at Oregon State University.

Why: Up to eight winning entries will receive $100 prizes, publication in an insert in The Daily Barometer to be distributed to the OSU community, and a chance to help shape the future.

When: Deadline for submissions is April 8, 2011 (see How to Submit below).

Contest Topic: What are the stories that will empower us to create a truly sustainable culture? We need greener technology, but just as importantly we need compelling stories, new ways to imagine and express our values about what a truly sustainable and equitable culture will look like and feel like.

Guidelines:

We encourage brevity and concision. Limit your submission to:

800 words for prose

20 lines for poetry

Do not include any visual images.

How to Submit:

1. One entry per person.

2. Include your name, e-mail address, and phone number on the first page of your submission.

3. Attach as a Word doc, or paste your submission into the body of your email.

4. Put your last name and “Sustainability Writing Contest” in the subject line.

5. Submit via email to spring.creek@oregonstate.edu
