Be a Port Dock 1 Volunteer!

June 11th, 2013 · No Comments · Uncategorized

Oregon Sea Grant and the Port of Newport launched the collaborative Interpretive Program at Port Dock 1 on Newport’s Historic PortDock1Bayfront in 2012. Twelve volunteers donated over 200 hours of time over two months educating visitors at this popular tourist area and working waterfront. The program is gearing up for a second season and is looking for volunteers for 3-hour flexible shifts throughout the summer.
An all day training event for new recruits is scheduled for Wednesday, June 26 beginning at 9 am at Englund Marine Supply until approximately 5 pm with a catered lunch break at noon. Training will include presentations by HMSC experts on topics such as California sea lions, whales, and the birds of Yaquina Bay. This free training will include tours of docks and other marine facilities to learn more about local fisheries.
All interested volunteers are welcome; RSVP required. Please contact Becca Harver at rebecca.harver@oregonstate.edu for more information or to register.
