Compensation

Think of a situation where you (or someone you know) engaged in a set of behaviors and compensation may have been a motivating factor. Some examples – accepted or declined a job offer, left a job, or decreased effort. Why do you think compensation motivated that behavior? What was it about the compensation that led you (or the other person) to behave that way?

One time I was motivated by compensation was in the summer when I had a sales job and I would receive a bonus if I was in the top 10% of salespersons. This motivated me to work harder and to actually have a goal rather than just going through the motions. I liked having this factor because I was actually thriving towards a goal and I really needed money at the time so this was the perfect opportunity to grind.

Another reason I enjoy have compensation as a motivation is because of the future rewards that I may be able to earn. This will keep me motivated for a longer period of time rather than just doing the same tasks everyday. Another way I would be motivated to do this assignment is if I had compensation coming from it rather than just knowledge and a grade. I would be more inclined to complete homework and assignments if I was paid for doing it. This is the same as many aspects of my life but the struggle is finding an enjoyable way to earn compensation.

Another way I was motivated by compensation was through a fantasy football league. If you win the league you receive a bonus. This along with bragging rights is a way of motivation for me.
