Motivation Through Compensation

Last summer, I began working with a general contractor in Southern California.  This was my first internship, and a chance to live somewhere I have always wanted to.  To me, this internship opportunity was a no-brainer.  I was going to be paid well and provided a place to live through the company.  Therefore, the only thing I had to worry about was getting to and from Los Angeles, which I was compensated for as well.  The company made this process extremely straightforward through compensation, which motivated me to take advantage of this great opportunity.

I enjoyed my summer as an intern enough to sign a full time offer with the same company in Southern California.  However, this decision was much more serious compared to the previous summer.  There were many more factors to consider, short and long term.  Like the internship, the company made my decision very easy.  I am compensated well on my salary, provided insurance, and even given money to put towards my retirement.  These benefits along with the opportunity to live in Southern California helped me make a quick and easy decision.

Personally, I am not extremely concerned with the amount of money I make right out of college as I do not have many financial commitments.  The only thing that I needed was to know that I will be financially stable enough to support myself.  During my internship, the other field engineers told me that the compensation they received was more than enough to be financially stable.  Knowing that this company was able to provide me that, especially in Southern California, motivated me to take this job offer.  The sense of relief the compensation and opportunity gave me made me want to work for this company even more than before.
