The time has come once more to register for the 9th Annual Oregon Veterinary Conference (OVC). This year’s conference will be held March 5-7 and offers an outstanding variety of lecture topics for veterinarians, technicians and students to attend throughout each day of the conference. The Oregon Veterinary Conference is a cooperative effort of the Oregon Veterinary Medical Association and the College of Veterinary Medicine at Oregon State University with the goal of providing meaningful continuing education to Northwest veterinarians, practice managers, and paraprofessionals. Go here for registration and program information.

Opportunity for veterinary students at the OVC

In addition to being an excellent opportunity for students to explore various subjects in veterinary medicine, it also offers unique chances to interact with veterinarians from around the state. This can mean lasting connections and job opportunities with veterinarians in a variety of fields. Registration for the OVC is absolutely free for the first 50 students registered, which should be a huge incentive to get your registration in well before the February 24 deadline!

Another great event has been added to the OVC agenda this year. SCAVMA will be holding its first-annual student-veterinarian dinner on Saturday, March 6, 2010. The focus of this dinner is to encourage interaction between veterinary students and veterinarians, and will be open not only to veterinarians attending the OVC, but also to CVM alumni and area practitioners. This is a come-as-you-are event held in Room 109 of the Memorial Union on campus. The event will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday, and veterinarians are encouraged to bring friends and family. Entertainment will be provided, and there will be a no-host bar.

Whether or not a student decides to attend the OVC as a whole, they are welcome to join fellow students and veterinarians at the SCAVMA dinner. An email will be sent out in the coming weeks notifying students how to sign up for the dinner. Again, there is incentive to get signed up early, as the first 25 students will be eligible for a discount on their ticket price. This discount is facilitated by donations from veterinarians who have registered for the event and who have offered to sponsor student involvement. Full-price tickets for students are $25.

Further information about the SCAVMA dinner will be available in the coming weeks, so watch your email for sign ups for what is sure to be a fun event!
