NW Natural Gas will be performing a natural gas service switchover on Wednesday, April 24 in the late morning in areas along Washington Way between SW 35th St and SW 30th St. The A.A Red Emmerson Advanced Wood Products Laboratory will be without natural gas service for the entire day. The switch over requires draining the line, which creates a very loud noise (similar to a jet engine) as pressure is released. There will also be a natural gas odor at this time which will naturally dissipate into the atmosphere. This is standard operating procedure for a natural gas switch over.

The image shows the area of work on Washington Way and the areas of noise impact along the street between SW 35th Street and SW 30th St.

As part of the Research Way Lab Building Renovation Project, a planned shutdown of the natural gas that currently serves the boiler room and two roof top units at the Research Way Lab Building will occur. The RTU’s are: RAC-3 provides heating and cooling to Lab 2038 area and will not affect any current occupants. RAC-5 provides heating and cooling to Lab 1169/1169A. With the warmer temperatures, this may not be an issue, but we do have a temporary work around for heating these spaces, should it be needed. This system should only be out of service on the heating side for approximately 2 hours on the day the subcontractor does the swap for this unit. The contractor will keep the 1169/1169A occupants informed on timing.

For questions or comments on this closure, contact Construction Manager Amy Keene at 541-214-1038.
