Compensation

Throughout my early years of college I worked for a number of restaurants (sugoi sushi, buffalo wild wings, McGrath’s, etc.) Even though the pay wasn’t ideal, it was enough for me at the time, I was able to come up with rent and utilities every month and still afford to do fun things here and there. Embracing the ‘poor college kid’ mentality I wasn’t necessarily motivated by making more money at that time, if anything I was content with holding down an easy job that I could do while taking classes. After bouncing around from restaurant to restaurant I came to the realization that what I was doing was no longer going to cut it. The last two restaurant jobs I had unexpectedly came to a conclusion with no fair warning. It wasn’t ever anyone’s fault, one restaurant shut down unexpectedly and the other was forced to lay off all their part time employees. The sad truth of reality was that as an employee working part time for a restaurant, you are very disposable. More often than not waiting jobs have a high turnover rate and some you are very vulnerable to losing your job for a number of reasons. and believe it or not but restaurants don’t typically offer a severance package… From this point I decided to stop looking for work in this industry, instead I decided to accept a job working for a car dealership that was still very young in its development. Here I’ve felt crucial to the business unlike at my previous place of employment.
