The media today portrays Asian men as the sidekick, the comedic relief, or the martial artists. We walk around campus with people who see Asians through the stereotypes- Asians are smart, but docile. In order for the public to realize that Asians are capable of an array of talents, we need to show it. Mr. SensAsian will encourage Asian males to express themselves through various segments of a pageant-like show:

  • A comedic skit (group performance)
  • Dance routine (group performance)
  • Talent (individual)
  • Best pick-up line (individual-show your charming self)
  • Q&A (individual- social and political issues Asians currently face will be addressed)

The event will need 7 or 8 Asian males (it doesn’t matter if you look “Asian” or not; I won’t be checking your ancestry). A choreographer would also be great to come up with a dance number.  Interested? Contact me, Malinda, via sengm@onid.orst.edu.

I am also hoping to get some local groups to perform as well. Hopefully the winner of the title will be mentioned in local/school newspapers; after all, this is Asian males in the media.

The goal is to fight the stereotypes society holds for Asian males as well as encourage cooperation within the group- Asian Pacific Islanders. We all know that breaking society’s hold on a belief takes many individuals collaborating with one another towards a common dream.

You are more than a stereotype. You will fight to be considered, without doubt, a true part of this society. No one can do it alone, so let’s team up and make this a big event so our peers and the rest of the community take notice- We are not going to accept a lesser role if what we deserve is to be the star.
