Hello selection process!

Many times people don’t tend to be bias in a situation, but they are because it’s how they feel about the situation. But there is ways we can reduce or eliminate it. One of the main areas where we see bias situations happen is in the selection process.

Implicit Attitude Test

I decided to do the sexuality test, and see what the outcome was because I think this a big issue in the world now. I am person that is not judgmental, and that I am friends with both heterosexuals’ and homosexual people. But taking this test it ask a couple personal questions, and than you take a test and when a word post up you click the straight button or the gay button when you see the picture or word. I went through this about 7 different times, and taking this is to show not my future behavior in this subject. Implicit bias is being associated with stereotypes even without knowledge of having one. In this case from the test it said my results that I prefer people that are straight versus gay ones. I don’t feel that way, or even treat anyone different but it was how I answered the questions.

Jobs

In the job process sometimes the people interviewing already have a bias decision due to the fact how you answer questions. If you were to bring something up personal in the interview, and they based not giving you the job that’s discriminations due to the fact the cannot base off your sexuality. But the person interviewing may thinks same sex marriage should be illegal even though that shouldn’t be a factor, but it’s their implicit bias that still weighs in when they are hiring someone. When hiring someone you want them to be reliability meaning they are trust worthy and will have great performance in their career. In the selection process the implicit bias may come in between candidates one maybe be gay and the other candidate might be straight their qualifications are about the same. But since their bias might come into play which their sexuality should not be a factor. It can be in the selection process, and they might not be able to fully trust the gay employee if they hire them over the straight. This happens all the time in the selection process of the employees. We need to figure out how to eliminate bias and discriminations in the selection process.

Even if we hire the person that we discover we have a bias feeling, there will be doubt that they will be successful. Due to the fact that the people hiring them want them to fail because they can’t fully trust them. By having these interviews blindly it will eliminate the bias from the reading we have learned in class. You can’t see the person only know their resume, IQ, or recommendation letters. In the article “how to take the bias out of interviews” we learn a lot from the personality test in a interview and someone IQ test. This allows us to not be as bias because it’s blindly.
