Answering those deep questions…

  • Ever wonder how scientists and engineers capture gas?
  • Do you think soil is alive?
  • How can we prove that yeast are alive?
  • What’s the inside of the locker room really look like? (HUH???)
  • Today campers were faced these and many other puzzling questions. I the engineering time campers looked in to how to use gasses to propel a car, and in the science lab they pondered how to determine if something is alive or not. After getting their minds exercised, we were all treated to a tour of Gill Coliseum and Reser Stadium.

Getting pumped up with the POD before heading off to class..

    Capturing gasses for CO2 cars

Gazette Times reporter 'gettin' the story' from the campers

Pondering the question "Is soil alive?"

Setting up an experiment to determine if yeast is alive

    Checking out Gill Coliseum

So THIS is what the inside of a locker room looks like...

Cheering for the home team... GO BEAVS!!!

Grace – you all look pretty small standing on the field at the stadium. Continues to be over 95 degrees here – hope it is a little cooler for you there…..kh

      Hey Tim,
Cool that you got to visit the Beaver stadium. How was it? You know how far you have to run if you are seriously thinking about playing football. I had lunch with Mrs. Leary today and she was thrilled to know you are at OSU. Do you like the food there? How is the dorm? Have you made some good friends? We all miss you…. Love ya, Mom

Hi Greta: We got the weekly newspaper in the mail today. You’re in it again. They got a picture of a bunch of people on the Gravitron at the Fair and you’re one of them. I’m making dinner for the School Board tonight. It’ll be whole wheat pasta, red sauce with zukes, salad and nectarine/lemon cake.

So Brennan what did you think! Your old mom used to cheer the team on in the stadium, waving my pom poms! Goooo Beavers! Fair just started, we all miss you. Kody’s lamb weighed t 3 more lbs than yours did last year, other than that he could be your lambs twin! Hope you having an amazing time! Make sure you build me a house on Mars with a pool. Thanks =)

      Greta-
Seeing you in a locker room is kind of an odd concept for me – you are my outdoor surfer girl! I know you play your inside sports too, but when I think of you, it is always outside! I love that you are getting to experience all this and am so grateful that such a smart girl was chosen to give you even more of an academic boost. I am proud of you! Now listen to your Mama and step away from the Mountain Dew! Love you baby!

It just turns out that there is a high probability that there once liquid water on mars and could be life! So you might not need a pool! we are working on the house though. Our engineering team name was the flaming purple rubber duckies. Our bottle rocket car went 23 feet. 2 feet from the destination. Miss you bye!

    20.   Juneon 04 Aug 2011 at 9:19 pm     20

HI Prema, not sure what you sent up 12 foot, was it yeast or soda pop with fizzy candy?

    21.   Heatheron 04 Aug 2011 at 11:10 pm     21

Hi Greta: Elia and I went fishing Tuesday and a guy gave us lots of tips. Maybe we can fish on the way home from camp, but I don’t know if we’d want to catch anything! We also met a lady that is going to sell Elia’s jewelry at a shop in Gold Beach. We miss you lots and like seeing the videos. I’m glad you’re making good food choices. I have discovered that straight balsamic vinegar with salt and pepper makes an awesome salad dressing.

Mom we have Propel Water bottles conetted to kinets them we put vinegar, baking soda, and water and it was like a little car but it only went 12 ft.

    25.   rebeccaon 12 Aug 2011 at 6:37 am     25

Oh my Goodness! (Yes Dalton, I did just type that)
Making propel bottle cars was so much fun! I’ve been having so much fun with my group ( Me, Jeidah, and Jacob)! It’s hard to see them all go and never be able to see them again, but who knows!!! Oh, and by the way, Jacob still owes me for the wrist band I “gave” to him. I will hang it over his head until he returns me with something of equal or greater value. (I’ll be expecting a hundred dollar bill at any moment) :)
      P.S.
      Yes I am serious.
