Today we began applying what we’ve learned so far by starting to plan our “Mission to Mars”. To kick of the day we had a visit from the NASA Education Specialist, Tony Leavitt.
NASA outreach education coordinator Tony Leavitt talked about some NASA programs, and Mars exploration. He told us about the INSPIRE program, which lets high school students be interns at the Ames laboratory.
Mr. Levitt’s presentation had really interesting pictures taken on Mars. As engineers we could design vehicles like the Spirit and Opportunity.
Today we got an introduction to our mission for next week. We were given cards with details about components to go into our spacecraft.
Everyone received a NASA sticker, which was a popular gift.
Tomorrow we head for the coast and Sunday we’ll be at Chintimini Wildlife Rehabilitation center… Then we’ll spend all next week planning for our trip to Mars!
Hello Ms. Elora!
So, today looked really interesting and fun. I can’t find you in the pictures though – imagine that. ;0) Learn lots so you can take Mom and Dad to Mars when we retire! I love you and miss you. Mom – Dad says hi and he loves ya and Rock says ruf – (it means hi and he misses you too!)
I saw you working with your group in the background of the video:) I hope you are having a great time and can’t wait to hear all about it when you are home!! Make sure you are taking lots of pictures:)
I am very proud of you for being selected for this great opportunity. Soak up as much information as you can and make the most of your time there. It will be a quick 2 weeks and you won’t want to miss any of it. Love you buddy.
Elora – thought I better try on two pages just to make sure you see that I wrote ya! Dad and I made it home, we are both really tired. It was SOOOO Good to see you. I LOVE YOU! I miss ya. Rock says hi! I am glad you are having fun and learning interesting things that are right up there in your top areas of interest. See you VERY soon on FRIDAY!!!! Love, Mom
hey Rico – it was SOOOOOO good to see you today and get to hear about your amazing experience at camp. We are very proud of you! Learn all that you can this week, especially from Dr. Harris! How cool….a real astronaut! Have fun, work hard, think creatively. We love you! XOXOXOXOXOXO M, T & D
I feel so special that the people from NASA decided to come to Bernard Harris Summer Science Camp here in Oregon out of all of the other states!! I’m having the most wonderful time of my life here! I’ve NEVER been a whole 2 weeks away from my parents and I’m getting SUPER home sick =( But I’m trying my best to not think about home too much. I’m so excited for my parents (and maybe Grandma) to come to our closing ceremony. I love love love love love you!!!
Hey Mom, Hey Dad!
I was so excited for the NASA guy to come visit. He taught us about the different rovers that have been on Mars and about water possibly being on Mars. I wish he had stayed to talk more!
On Saterday we went to the Newport beach. It was a lot of fun! Holly and i were running everywhere (inside the cones any way) The sand was actully kinda hot like some of the top of the sand was a little black.
How are you doing? I’m glad you got back to Medford safely. I saw your different posts. I had fun at the Wildlife Center. I got to see some Raccoons, ducks, a Barn owl, Great horned Owl, Bald eagle, Red tailed hawk, some baby mice, and their mother, and I think there might have been some other animals. I really liked the raccoons! They were really cute! I also learned that a rhino’s horn and a porcupine’s quills are actually made of really tightly twisted hair. Isn’t that interesting!? I also had had fun with you yesterday. I can’t wait to see you on Friday!
