Food For Thought: Popeye Power Smoothie

Food for Thought, brought to you by the Oregon State Student Health Services Dietician Lynn Cordes, MS, RD, LD and the Dietetic Intern, Lynette Iseli.

This fun smoothie will help you get your fruits and veggies without even thinking about it. One serving of this drink contains almost 1 cup of fruits and vegetables combined, which helps you meet the MyPlate recommendation of 4 to 5 cups of fruits and vegetables daily. Enjoying this drink around friends, family, or classmates may even make for a conversation starter. Drink to your health!

 


Food Hero Recipe

Ingredients

1 cup orange juice
1⁄2 cup pineapple juice
1⁄2 cup plain or vanilla yogurt
1 banana, peeled and sliced
2 cups fresh spinach leaves
crushed ice

Directions
1. Combine all ingredients in a blender.
2. Puree until completely smooth.
3. Serve immediately.
Refrigerate leftovers within 2-3 hours.
