Opportunities to Be Active!

September 26th, 2012

Here are two amazing opportunities for you to be active with President’s Council on Fitness, Sports and Nutrition (PCFSN) this week:

1.    #FitnessGovPSA Twitter Challenge: Earlier this month, PCFSN launched its Physical Activity Outreach Initiative, which includes national TV, radio and print public service announcements (PSAs) featuring our co-chairs Drew Brees and Dominique Dawes! The PSAs educate and empower parents and caregivers about the importance of regular physical activity for their kids and the positive impact it can have on academic performance. The PSAs also help raise awareness of HHS’ Physical Activity Guidelines for Americans, which recommends that children get at least 60 minutes of activity per day.

PCFSN challenges you to get outside and be active while on the lookout our Physical Activity PSAs, which are appearing nationwide now! The #FitnessGovPSA Twitter Challenge starts today, September 24, 2012 and will end midnight eastern standard time on Sunday, September 30, 2012. Send a photo photo of the PSA using #FitnessGovPSA! Please indicate where you saw the PSAs including cross-streets and city/state. PCFSN will add your tweet to the @FitnessGov Storify page.

2.    JAM World Record 2012: This Thursday, September 27 at 10 am local time, both children and adults will do a fun, easy one-minute fitness routine as part of JAM World Record 2012 attempt.  This national initiative aims to raise awareness about the importance of everyone making good health choices and physical activity a daily habit.  People of all ages and abilities are invited to pause and join in, wherever you are at 10 am your local time. In the spirit of friendly fun, there is a state competition and the state that recruits the most people to participate will be awarded the National JAM Title. Join us by going to www.jamworldrecord.org to be counted in our state’s totals and learn the easy routine.
