The Energy Civil War is an event held for the past three years where University of Oregon and Oregon State University compete to generate the most electricity from ellipticals at each Recreational Center. Last year University of Oregon beat Oregon State University generating 21,600 watt hours of energy to OSU’s 20,000.
The goal of the Energy Civil War is to generate more electricity than U of O and generate 25,000 watt hours. Last year OSU generated 20,000 watt-hours which can power an average sized house for at least one day, meaning we will have to work hard to generate that extra electricity.
A 30 minute workout session generates about 50 watt hours and makes us one step closer to our goals. The larger the resistance the more electricity is generated. Long term goals are to increase electricity generation through the ellipticals and to educate University members about the potential to generate electricity through the ellipticals. The ReRev systems that harness the energy are useless without individuals to use them. University members, by using the ellipticals are not only maintaining fitness but also helping to protect the environment from harmful fossil fuels.

Sounds like awesome fun! Could save on the electric bill and lose a few inches.
