Organizations decide to allocate more resources toward the marketing or product design because they don’t view the recruiting and selection process as a long term investment and value that will have sustainable or successful outcomes. I believe that the resources toward marketing and product design are short-term and show fast results which is why it could be appealing to organizations. When management doesn’t focus on the importance of employee recruitment it can be costly to the organization to try to fix mistakes or realize they need to allocate more money after the fact.
The book Who, there is an emphasis on why it is important on who exactly they are hiring. The actual people part of jobs are a resource that is just as important if not more than marketing or product design in a company. I feel that many organizations overlook this part of the company easily and that is why companies have an HR department that specializes in this part of the organization. A lot of people’s skills are hard to mimic or replicate and that is why they are a competitive resource and are a competitive strategy resource in an organization. It can be hard to find people that fit roles or have exceptional skills.
The long-term investment of recruiting and selection could make or break an organization’s decision making and future for the company and the emphasis for this talent from potential employees to be obtained is extremely crucial to pay attention to.
