Week 1: Job Application Experiences

MGMT 448 – Ashley

I had submitted an application for an administrative internship role. The beginning process required me to create a new Workday account and to input my information. The form was asking me to attach my resume, and as I continued to the next page, the dreaded questions flooded the webpage. It was asking for information regarding the roles that I have previously been in, including the company, what I did, and the start and end dates. I copied and pasted my entire resume into this page along with additional roles that I could not fit into my resume. After completing this, I moved onto the next page which asked about high school experience and clubs that I was in. I filled in the information and proceeded to finish the rest of the application. This process took 45 minutes to complete.

Thinking about my experience during the job application process and how it influenced my impression of the role I was applying to, I did not have a desire to continue applying to this role, as I alluded to dreading the page where I had to re-enter my work experience. I do not enjoy it when company’s ask for my resume, but then ask the same questions following it. I feel that it is a negative usage of my time, but a resume along with the option to submit additional work experience should suffice. This process had made me not want to proceed in the application for this role, as it felt time consuming, and gave me the feeling that recruiters will not read my resume if they needed me to resubmit all of my work experience. I would prefer to work for a company that reads the resumes of applicants, as the resume is efficient and effective.
