Hello and welcome to my first blog post! My name is Ashleigh and I live in Michigan. My first degree is in Kinesiology from Michigan State University. After I graduated, I got a job at the same company my mother-in-law worked for at the time in the healthcare industry. After working there for a couple years, I noticed how far behind, slow, and not user-friendly some of the systems I use daily were and it led me down a path into thinking “that there must be better systems out there and if not, could I be one of those people to help create an even better one than what currently exists today?” This led me into researching online computer science degree programs and I came across Oregon State University and felt it would be a perfect fit. I currently still work there, and my mother-in-law has since retired. I have been working full time while completing my postbaccalaureate computer science degree at OSU. I’m looking forward to my current and last course, Online Capstone Project, and will be graduating in December. This December is also a very exciting time for me and my husband as we are expecting our first baby. Yes I am currently almost 7 months pregnant, working full time (remote, thankfully), and taking a 4 credit college course; whoever said I was a busy body was not lying. Please disregard anything that sounds crazy or doesn’t make sense as I’ve learned the hard way that pregnancy brain is a real thing that feels like brain fog that never seems to fully go away.

It has been a long journey to get to where I am today. When I started my postbacc degree in winter 2018 I was engaged to my husband and was struggling to balance work, school, and planning a wedding. I had a hard time with my first two classes in the program, Intro to Computer Science I and Intro to Computer Science II, but I attended office hours and online tutoring whenever I could which helped a lot. I remember one of the TAs in my second intro class told me that if I could make it through these first two classes that I would be able to make it through the rest of the program and that kept me going when I would run into one error message after another while working on an assignment. Turns out he was right and here I am only one class away from graduating!! Looking forward to where this course and my CS degree takes me. Chat soon,
