Blogging was surprisingly difficult at the start of the class which I was not expecting. I used to think all the blogging sites were so basic and simple to navigate that it meant they were easy to use to create as well; I was wrong. However, now that I have had months of experience using the website I feel I could teach someone how to use the website fairly easily. I am confident in my blogging skills as well as making sure that people have the resources that I used in my posts and pages.

I feel like I did accomplish the objectives of the course. As a WS minor and a feminist I am confident in my feminist analyses and my researching capabilities prior to this course. I definitely re-learned how to construct a website because I had not built a website since my freshman year of high school.

I have a feeling that as my college career and feminist teachings continue I will be using social media a lot more. It seems that most WS courses offered at OSU try to have elements of social media in them to keep the studies modern and to address the importance of social media in the feminist movement(s).

This class is a great example of feminist pedagogy in teaching. It teaches students to think for themselves and try to encourage them to use the teachings in their own life. We have now been given such information that we can all respect one another and have constructive feminist theory discussions. This is a change from the standard lecture, essay, test format that many classes have today. The course itself is liberatory because it encourages us to be our own teachers and guide our own education rather than having it be spewed forth for us to absorb.

For my teach project I am thinking of teaching students how to assemble a computer once all the parts have been bought, or teaching students how to remove EXIF data from images that are taken with smart phones. Removing EXIF data from images is a much more practical teach project because students constantly upload photos that were taken via smart phones. If they do not remove the EXIF data prior to uploading it online, someone can actually find out where that exact picture was taken. This would be helpful in protecting students from unwarranted visitors/stalkers/creepers from knowing valuable personal information.

In doing this project I will need to know exactly what smartphones have EXIF data included in their pictures and what phones don’t. For example, i know all iphones include EXIF data in their photos, but I do not know about windows smart phones. While there are other resources available that will teach one how to remove EXIF data, I want to make mine shorter and more easily understood.

If I choose to teach students how to build a computer, then I will need to clearly list all the parts that are required in order to built a working computer from scratch as well as the physical tools needed, such as thermal paste, screwdriver, etc. There are very detailed articles that teach how to pick and choose as well as build a computer online, but I only want to teach how to physically build the PC.

I originally decided to try using the Mint program for dealing with my finances and spreadsheet, but once i realized it just links to my BofA account it was pointless for me. Mint wasn’t helpful in my project so I decided to stick with Google Docs. The service provided by Google is incredibly easy to use and it constantly saves whenever you stop your work so it makes for less frustration if you are experiences computer/internet problems.

So far my research has been rather difficult. The reading is often very dense and not very useful. It has been difficult to find scholarly articles so far and I am not nearly done with it yet. I am trying to contact Lucy Macdonald to get some personal testimony from her and to interview her about her life and her work. It is also hard to write about her technological advancements when she hasn’t emailed me back yet with more information about her work. So far my information of her and her work is very limited. I still have a lot to do, but this is a start.

Unfortunately messaging Jane Nichols, the Women Studies Librarian yielded no results. I emailed her on 4/26 and have yet to hear back. However, I did talk with a librarian from Ohio, via chat, who helped me a good deal. Considering the questions I was asking were rather vague I was not really expecting too much. The librarian who helped me guided me to a web page with a resume-like piece of Lucy Macdonald. He or she also suggested that I look into state assisted Developmental Disabilities Services to learn more about who/what Lucy Macdonald has been working with in the past. They also found a couple websites that may help me learn more about Scottish culture.
