Closed on the house at the end of March and have to be out of the apartment by the beginning of May. One month to do major stuff.

- Saturday, March 28, 2008 – It’s our first day that we can get in and start working on the house. We wonder what’s under the worn old carpet. By the end of the day we’ve pulled up the carpet and padding in three rooms.

- Day 3 – Digging right in. The windows are rotting. In fact, this one disintegrated as it was removed from the wall.

- Day 6 – We have a contractor for a week. The window with the vertical divide is the one replaced day 3. The walls of the old dining room are stripped to studs.

- Take a look at day 6. This window is about to be replaced by a door. Good plan too as the wall under the window is rotten.

- If you look into the garage you’ll see the old entry into the house. Doesn’t this make a lot more sense?

- Rotted floor? No problem. Notice a missing wall?

- So the old entry was through the garage, and will be sealed by the end of the month. Might as well take out this step.

- Day 9 – Every wall is stripped to the studs. The ceiling in what was a tiny dining room had been covered with tiles.

- Day 9 -With the ceiling down to the plywood, it’s covered over by drywall.

- Day 14 – With new electrical lines in place the walls are filled with insulation before drywall gives it a clean face.

- Ah, one corner to a decent stopping point.

- The original living room, minus some carpet.

- You may be wondering what’s happening with the floor in those first three rooms. Lots of sanding, that’s what.

- After sanding and sanding, it’s time to stain, and AT LAST we can start sealing!

- Looks a bit better than old carpet. This photo taken slightly to the left of the “original living room” posted above.

- In between sanding the hardwood it’s time to start working on the kitchen floor.

- Each sheet of subfloor needs over a box of nails. You get REALLY good at hammering.

- Tiles of cork are placed on top.
A month is up! Ready or not it’s time to move in.
