Blog Post:Job Descriptions

The last job I had was working as a stocker for a local store in my hometown. This job was a last minute summer job that I wanted to get to make a little money on the side. The job description initially didnt enticed me very much, due to the mental need for myself to get any job that was possible to get at that time. Looking back at this job now, I would think that it is all encompassing and that having a very narrow job description doesn’t actually fit the position for what work we actually did. My experience was extremely different because we were given job responsibilities out of our initial scope. We were ordered to drive the van with merchandise, without any industrial van training, as well as other job responsibilities that were not initially discussed on paper or in person. The only similarity was the original job responsibilities that I saw when I applied for the job like stocking, cash register, and cleaning of the store. The job description was wrong in that it included massive amounts of repsonisibilites not described at all throughout the initial process, and when on-boarding for the company. Overall it is extremely important for HR managers and others making these job description’s to have accurate and up to date information about the tasks that will be assigned to these employees in the future, as it will make the transition from new employee to happy and satisfied employee that much easier!
